The essayistic documentary Ort ohne Erinnerung – Kaisersteinbruch, die verschwundene Geschichte explores the hidden and repressed past of a seemingly forgotten place. Starting from the present and the people currently living there, the film uncovers the complex history of Kaisersteinbruch – once a significant center of stonemasonry, later the site of political detention camps and one of the largest prisoner-of-war camps of the Third Reich. Visible remnants and invisible memories provoke reflection and confrontation. Today, the story is rarely told; many residents know little about the past that lies concealed behind military walls and memorial sites. The film also sheds light on the fate of French prisoners of war, their forced labor, and the forbidden relationships they had with Austrian women.
